    CELEBRATION & BLESSING OF MARRIAGE

Marriage is a gift of God and a means of God's grace. In marriage, two people give themselves to each other, and they begin a new life together in the community. An act of Christian marriage assumes a commitment to the way of Jesus Christ in our lives together. We believe that Christian marriage is a sacrament - that is, a powerful means and sign of God's grace for God's people - and so we are committed to that vision, and more importantly, to your future relationship as a married couple following Christ's way of life as members of the church.

Blessed with love, care, and happiness ...

    CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE

Christian marriage celebrates the union of a couple in the context of their relationship with Christ and the whole Christian family. Contact our Rector at least 90 days before the date you’d like to get married. This allows time for proper preparation for marriage and for a conversation with the priest about the details of the service. It also allows you to be informed about St. John's policy on weddings.

    Marriage Blessing

God, you have so consecrated the covenant of marriage that in it is represented the spiritual unity between Christ and his Church. Send therefore your blessing upon these your servants, that they may so love, honour, and cherish each other in faithfulness and patience, in wisdom and true godliness, that their home may be a haven of blessing and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

The Wedding Feast at Cana (1563), by the Italian artist Paolo Veronese (1528–1588) The musicians providing ambience for the Wedding Feast at Cana are personified by Veronese (viola da braccio), and the principal painters of the Venetian school: Jacopo Bassano (cornetto), Tintoretto (viola da braccio) and Titian (violone); standing beside Titian is the poet Pietro Aretino.

    Marriage in the Church

Love is patient, Love is kind...

Congratulations on your engagement and your upcoming wedding. If you are looking for a warm, inviting location for a Wedding (including same-sex couples) please call the office to talk to our priest. A wedding in the life of the church is a celebration in worship where God’s gift of marriage and God’s blessing - strengthening and sustaining marriage - is proclaimed. A wedding is also a time for much thought and planning to make sure that the wedding day goes as planned and that your life together after the big day continues to be blessed with love, care, and happiness. It is better for couples to openly and honestly speak about their wishes for the wedding day, and the life after, before the planning and details have been established.
